Marouane Fellaini: Jury is still out on this dude!

So much hype for this dude, maybe given that Marouane Fellaini is Manchester United’s only signing in the recently concluded transfer windows, which also turn out to be one of the most farcical transfer activities in United’s history. So has Fellaini actually proves his worth? As it speaks, Marouane Fellaini is on international duties with Belgium – in a squad so highly rated by many due to their young talents such as Eden Hazard, Romeo Lulaku and of course Fellaini. Fellaini is also due to miss out on further actions for Manchester United after the internationals due to wrist injury.

So far Fellaini had feature in most of Manchester United’s games, with the exception of the last game – the much needed win against hapless and managerless Sunderland, as well as the Capital One game against Liverpool (cup tied). Being David Moyes’ only signing Fellaini had been selected (or preferred) in most games, partnering Michael Carrick in central midfield and assumed the more advanced attacking role – ahead of the likes of Tom Cleverly or Anderson. To say he is outstanding is totally and utterly untrue, to say he is a flop is too early to call. In the end most fans would classified Fellaini’s performance as just average – another one of those Cleverly-Carrick, Anderson-Carrick partnership performances. At times when United is hapless, Fellaini was found to be clueless too, indecisive or unsure of the direction of play. But he did hold up his duties as instructed and to be fair to Fellaini, Moyes try to use him at a role he may not be too comfortable given that the switch in level from Everton to United is significantly different. To sum it up there had been no ‘brilliant performance from this £27.5 million signing, not just yet.

Fellaini, like Moyes have been found still trying to adapt to the change of level from Everton’s days to a club of Manchester United’s stature. For one, even the training intensity was different and Fellaini was found to struggle initially. For a player known for his endurance and stamina Fellaini’s struggle at United’s level prove that stepping up a level is not everybody’s cup of tea (maybe Leighton Baines ought to take this into consideration). However Fellaini has the individual qualities to be a good midfielder, there is still hope for a new Roy Keane – as long as Fellaini can change his mindset and realize that he is playing for Manchester United, and no longer Everton. There is still hope for United fans!!
