Transfer News/Updates: 13 August – Russian club and Everton

With rest than 3 weeks to go, it appears that transfer activities – for Manchester United (as well as its closest rivals) had been blowing hot and cold. While David Moyes has been insisting that there are still ongoing activities on the transfer fronts it appears quite likely that for Manchester United fans, it is going to be the same team from last season, with the biggest and only change/ transfer coming in being – David Moyes.

With Anzhi Makhachkala undergoing major costs cutting measure, the exodus of their star and over paid players would start another round of fresh speculation. Leading this pack will be Samuel Eto, being linked with a move to Chelsea. It appears likely especially when Jose Mourinho has tried but so far failed – in his attempt to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United. Chelsea will have no problems with his wage demand or what the Russian club asking price for a player probably pass his prime. But Eto’s reputation should be enough reason for Abramovich to have another star player added to his squad.

Elsewhere according to some reports Manchester United appears ready to submit a bid for Gareth Bale, with Javier Hernandez included as part of the deal. The reason being that Real Madrid, despite their wishes to have Bale on their team, appears to be on the losing end in their negotiation with Tottenham Hotspurs, headed by reputed tough negotiator – Daniel Levy. Moving to Old Trafford also appears to be a sensible move for Bale, giving his young family and of course a club of Manchester United’s stature. However the one stumbling block will be the asking price, which may prove too much for United as Bale is not Cristiano Ronaldo, performance or commercial wise.

In the end Manchester United fans may end up with ‘not-so-star-studded’ signing as rumours are rife that Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines may well be David Moyes next signings. Leighton Baines may not be the necessity given Patrice Evra’s performance against Wigan on Sunday, as well as adequate back up players in the shape of Alexander Buttner and Fabio da Silvia. But the arrival of the tall ‘funny hairdo’ Belgian will certainly put smile on most Manchester United’s fans (read this).
