Gareth Bale for Manchester United, anyone?

Reports suggest that if Cristiano Ronaldo’s move is unsuccessful, Manchester United would put their effort in luring Gareth Bale as their mega signing for this season. Which one would Manchester United go for? In a fantasy world, signing both Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same season would be every fan’s ultimate wish. In reality this will never work due to so many reasons. After missing out on Thiago Alcantara, Manchester United set their target on signing at least one ‘marque’ player. But which one would it be if the transfer is to come through?
Bale has from reports hinted at a move, but mentioned Spain. Tottenham Hotspurs on their part is trying to do everything to keep him, breaking the wage structure to accommodate Bale, including him with the new season kit launch as well as slapping a £100 million price tag. Gareth Bale had an amazing season (also presided by another good season), therefore his value has increased tremendously. At under 25 years of age, Bale has plenty of room to further improve, he has already changed his positional play where he started as a leftback, progressing to left midfield and wings. He also plays rather regularly in the centre last season. Andre Villas-Boas has indicated that Gareth Bale best position could be behind the strikers!. Bale’s age also fit into Manchester United policy of investing in players under 26 years old. With the Glazers backing a mega transfer and Manchester United ability to make Gareth Bale one of the best paid player, it would seems very ideal and even logical to have Bale on board this season. Manchester United had actually missed out once when Gareth Bale was still a teenager at Southampton, let’s just hope the transfer will progress well this time around. We would wonder if Ryan Giggs would play a part in urging his compatriot on a possible move to Manchester United. That would be like icing on the cake for Manchester United’s fans.

However Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known as a tough negotiator. Remember Dimitar Berbatov or Luca Modric? Both transfer deals drag till the very last minutes with players handing in transfer request. With Bale so important for Tottenham Hotspurs, both commercially and on the field who could blame Daniel Levy, he has not had any such highly valued mega star in his team before. Our guess here is that there would be some surprises in this potential transfer, so watch this space.
