The Wayne Rooney Saga – Part 2: Manchester United makes its stand

The news reported that Wayne Rooney is apparently ‘angry’ and confused’ over remarks make by Manchester United’s hierarchy.
First David Moyes’ remark that Rooney would be useful backup if Robin Van Persie does get injure or unavailable. Whether David Moyes actually meant that injury to the main striker role which Van Persie is holding right now, meaning that he (David Moyes) intends to use one out-and-out striker formation. If that is the case, it could mean that he intends to use Wayne Rooney not for the central striker role, maybe perhaps the No 9 or out wide, and only when Van Persie is unavailable then Wayne Rooney will be the automatic choice for the lone striker role. Or he meant it literally – that Wayne Rooney is being consider the 2nd choice striker. Which formation will David Moyes eventually end up using is still everybody guess. Also bear in mind that Manchester United has other highly rated striker –in Javier Hernandez, with Danny Welbeck able to fill that role too. It has been suggested that Shinji Kagawa could be favour for the behind the main striker’s role leaving Wayne Rooney with out wide or midfield role.

Secondly, new Manchester United chief, Edward Woodward has insisted that ‘United will not be forced to the negotiating table over Wayne Rooney’s contract talk’. Further to that Woodward also stated that the club will not be afraid to let Wayne Rooney’s contract runs down. Such hardline stance only serve to the public the notion of ‘nobody or players will be bigger than the club’, a stance most Manchester United fans know well during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time. This also means that the club is putting their star player on probation, an action that would be humiliating for a player of Rooney’s status.

Therefore it is not surprising that Wayne Rooney feels ‘angry and confused’, any player of his stature would be. It seems that this saga will not end, not until a firm decision has been made, whether Rooney or Manchester United gets their way. The longer this issue drags on the more Manchester United fans will turn on Wayne Rooney even if another U-turn is being made. Most people would remember the hostility Wayne Rooney gets the last time this saga happened back in 2010. Wayne Rooney should make his stand publicly (he does has access to Twitter and Facebook) because the one who would stand to lose most is Wayne Rooney himself. I can remember various online comments like ‘who does Rooney thinks he is, going up against a well established club like Man Utd’.
