This
blog is created for Manchester United fans, it’s for FUN, that’s the purpose.
This blog basically provide news and opinions based articles. I do know that apart from
myself, many of my fellow die-hard Manchester United fans would enjoy short
articles as a way to pass time or relaxing at the end of a stressful day. One
source would be news feed based website such as www.veryquiet.com. But this would meant unfiltered
football articles and countless of additional tabs or windows opened. The
articles here are either my own, but mostly contributions from fellow Man Utd
fans via emails. The news in this blog is mainly about Manchester United and other
related football news. I have no intention of doing post match analysis, live updates/
coverage etc, as there are plenty of these elsewhere online. Neither will I bother
do much about grammatical presentations of my articles. Rather there would be
simple information like results, fixtures or standings (asides from the current
news). The articles here are in no way affiliated to Manchester United (the
club) or the official website.
So
do enjoy the leisure reading in this blog. Everybody is welcome to leave
comments or email me for contributions. Remember, life is short, let’s just
take it easy and enjoy. I can’t wait for the new season to start (experiencing
severe withdrawal symptoms). If you do have more time feel free to read the “long
winded” version of my background below.
Some Background
One
main reason for this blog – I want to learn how to blog, yeah, that’s right,
learning to blog. Been wanting to get my hand on blogging since the days when
blogging was relatively new. Now that after hundreds of millions of blogs out
there, here I come, better late than never. Never consider myself computer
savvy, I set up this challenge of creating this blog – to learn from scratch.
Last time I used computer extensively was during student days. I admit I am
still old school, preferring desktop or worse laptop. Darn, my sons’ are way
beyond me when comes to smartphone and tablets usage.
What
better ways to learn to blog than when you are doing something you are
passionate about. I have been a Manchester United fan since 1986. Die-hard,
yes, but not fanatical (though I have so far not miss a single live telecast of
Manchester United matches, be it the lowly rated Carling/ League Cup to the
midweek and champions league, with the exception of pre-season/ friendlies.
Also taking into consideration the fact that where I reside, night live matches
equals to ‘ungodly’ hours of football matches. My other half once wonders if I
need professional help for these devotions – she gave up!!).
I
can recall many of ‘football fans’ (glory hunters) who switches supports to
whichever club that are popular at that moment of time but not me and my groups
of friends whom I communicated regularly via emails. But I do know that there
are probably millions out there like us. We stick to Manchester United through
high and lows, good and bad times (I was given ‘sticks’ back in 2004 when
Manchester United end up trophy-less and was out of champions league at group
stages, finishing last and even missed out on the then UEFA cup. Not surprising
that particular person was my “you-never-walk-alone” superior and everybody
jump on his ship as they would go on and win the tournament in such lucky and
unbelievable circumstances). Many of us do enjoy some sorts of banters on our
rivals now and then (used to be Liverpool but since our 20th league
title and their mid-table ‘permanent residency’ status, the focus switches more
towards the blue half of Manchester), but ultimately it’s our love of the game and
the club that makes life interesting.
Why
Manchester United? Back then during school days the “popular teams” are
Liverpool (yes they were top then), Everton and Tottenham Hotspurs with names
like Ian Rush, Barnes, Lineker, Hoodles or Bryan Robson dominating headines. Every kids want a team to support, a popular
one that is. Maybe I guess I want to be different. I stumble on an article
about Bryan Robson - him and England (not Manchester United). I later found out
that he plays for Manchester United and that’s where it all started, yeah, as
simple as that.
Sir
Alex Ferguson was new, having been appointed to replace the sacked Ron
Atkinson. Not much was expected of him. Early results were not encouraging, not
till the early 90s. Throughout the years of supporting Manchester United there
has not been another manager, such was the impact of Alex Ferguson’s reign at
Old Trafford most of Manchester United fans were stunned by his retirement. We
can recall countless star players comes and go but never the manager. This blog
has been created post-Alex Ferguson era (hence the title) and we Manchester
United fans looks forward to the new era and hopefully successful era under
David Moyes. Personally I feel that Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievement cannot be
replicated, ever, by anybody in the modern game but our support must continue
for David Moyes and the club. David Moyes must be given the support and time to
achieve success and in between, there would be times where doubters would talk
loudest. But David had been handpicked by Sir Alex Ferguson and unless Sir Alex
makes the biggest mistake in his life, die hard Manchester United fans would
continue to do our ever increasing trophy counts.
