This
should be another first – David Moyes first competitive win at Old Trafford. It
is also the second competitive game at home for Moyes. The one against Jose
Mourinho’s side is one to forget – never mind Wayne Rooney’s performance, he is
not available for this game anyway.
With the arrival of Manchester United’s only significant signing Marouane Fellaini, the squad that will launch the assault on all four trophies on offer this season is final, at least for now till the winter transfer windows. It is proven that David Moyes has every intention (and/ or confidence) to use the title winning squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson. With Nani signing a new 5 years contract, and Anderson going nowhere, Wayne Rooney staying put – for now, this is it for David Moyes, the game starts now.

What
would be interesting to see is whether Moyes continues with the traditional
4-4-2 he had been using so far this season. With Fellaini onboard it will be
interesting to see if Moyes will change his formation to accommodate the lanky
Belgium, which will mean a possible central midfield partnership of
Fellaini-Carrick. With Wayne Rooney most likely sitting out of this game, would
fans finally get to see Shinji Kagawa in action playing behind Robin Van Persie?
One player most definitely going to start will be Danny Welbeck who has been in
form for both Manchester United and England but did not play the last World Cup
qualifier against Ukraine due to suspension. If Welbeck does get the node, it
would be interesting to see if he gets the nod to play behind Van Persie, which
will mean that Kagawa – if he does get into the starting XI – will be
marginalized again. Ryan Giggs – with no international commitment could
possibly be in line to start as well. As far as promising youngsters in the
squad, both Wilfred Zaha and Adnan Januzaj has not seen action so far this
season, will they have to wait until the Capital One fixture against Liverpool
or will Moyes going to intergrate them slowly in the first team by way of
substitutions?
The
team selection will probably be influence by the conditions of players coming
back from international duty. Regardless of the selection David Moyes must make
sure that anything other than a comfortable win against Crystal Palace at Old
Trafford is crucial, not just for the fans but also for his team. After the
fiasco of the summer transfer all attention will be on Moyes, and the scoreline
at the end of the match.
