We
want you to take the current ‘ordinary-labeled’ squad and make them better like
they used to be (therefore like how they can be). Put the hunger back in them,
make them want the ball all the time, make them fight until the last few
seconds of stoppage time, makes them feel ‘privilege’ everytime they put on the
Manchester United jersey. Yes that top the list and not another Marouane
Fellaini….
Bearing in mind that the January transfer windows will always be a difficult one. Cup tied or players unwilling to move half way through the season – especially one with World Cup looming, makes it almost impossible to get the type of players most experts agree will fire Manchester United back to playing how they should. Historical has shown this and practicality back this fact on January signings – Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are the exceptions. It is more viable to do youth signings during this transfer windows as United does not need more ‘fringe/ squad’ players.

With
Darren Fletcher back, we want you to start creating midfield partnerships that
can rule the middle of the field – like Roy Keane, Paul Scholes-Nicky Butt’s
era. Players like Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Phil Jones (and even
Anderson) are all good enough technically, use them the right way and they can
be outstanding – remember the Fletcher-Carrick-Anderson partnership. You also
have Tom Cleverly whom can be versatile enough for the deeper role.
Therefore
creativity in midfield should see players like Adnan Januzaj, Shinji Kagawa,
and even Wayne Rooney deploy. Never mind about keeping Wayne Rooney happy (when
playing him out of position – if he has intentions to leave when there is no
Champions League football it shows that you cannot built a team for the future
around him). Bring back Nick Powell from loan and gives him the opportunity to
see whether he is indeed the star of the future (remember Paul Pogba?)
Start
using players like Nani and Wilfred Zaha on the flanks more often if 4-4-2 is
still your preferred formation. Antonio Valencia seems too one dimensional and
inconsistent while Ashley Young’s reputation could do more harm than good to
United’s causes – at best deploy Young and Valencia as back up or impact
substitution.
We
want you to start using Fabio da Silvia (ignore his recent red card against
Swansea City) – that fellow can be a gem if he is use the right way. Originally
being a leftback during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time, Fabio has being seeing as a
rightback under your reign. Nothing wrong with that, except that his brother
Rafael is equally impressive there with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones able to
deputise effectively – even Antonio Valencia can too (at times). Being two
footed is an added advantage in today’s game and players like Fabio should be
utilize much much more!
Alternately
if you prefer the traditional 4-4-2 (with wingers crossing in) why not deploy
the da Silva brothers in the flank instead! These two may be fullbacks but
there are more than capable as attacking players, two footed, as well as an eye
for goals. Being fullbacks all their careers mean that you will have two
attacking players able to switch to defensive duties at a canter – which is
something you are fond of. This way, you may deploy a much more physical
fullback at your back four too!
So
honestly David Moyes, the only signing that make sense in the winter transfer
window would be Luke Shaw. This guy has Premier League credential having play
for the impressive Southampton. He is young with plenty of opportunity to
improve and he is English – making it possible to have him longer or possibly
forever. Break the record if you have to, offer him something he can’t refuse
and get him in and make sure he and Patrice Evra share the leftback position fairly
with an eye for the future – he is not Champions League-tied by the way!
With
your admission that it is very difficult to find world class players in the
January transfers window why not just focus on the existing squad and bring the
best out if them – we all know it’s possible – we have all seen it!
