A
reported 3rd bid in excess of £35 million for Cesc Fabregas by
Manchester United. A back-up plan to bid for Real Madrid’s Luca Modric. And
Gareth Bale closer to Tottenham Hotspurs ‘exit’ – to Real Madrid. With
new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino insisting the club has every intention of
keeping Fabregas and with two bids rejected, it sounded more like desperation
for Manchester United in their attempts to make a marquee signing. Furthermore
Cesc Fabregas himself has not publicly states his intention – preferring to use
the ‘wait-and-see’ strategy.
While
there have been no public statement from Manchester United on a possible bid
for Luca Modric, it is understood that this is a viable option for two reasons.
Firstly Luca Modric is a creative, attacking midfielder, one which Manchester
United is purportedly “shopping” for, and secondly, Modric has been under
United’s radar for a while (during Alex Ferguson’s time) and if he is available
then it makes sense to secure his services. However, one cannot help but
consider this slight fact – how would Luca Modric feels about being the second
choice target after Cesc Fabregas. Maybe it does not matter to him as he is
already “second choice” at Real Madrid having failed to secure consistent
starting position under Jose Mourinho. Or maybe the new manager (Carlo
Ancelotti) factor comes into play where most highly rated “squad players” have
a chance to impress. It may well comes down to Ancelotti vs Moyes!.
The
Gareth Bale situation has now turns into the most talk about transfer news and
promises to be even more ‘nastier’ (eclipsing the Wayne Rooney’s saga), given
the fact that Daniel Levy is the person in the spotlight, and also the fact
that this is Real Madrid – and their ‘famous tactics’ of securing (and
unsettling) big names target. The one factor working for Manchester United to
even think of securing Gareth Bale’s signature is that Bale could not see
himself uprooting his young family to completely new surroundings. Michael Owen
has come out highlighting his ‘not-so-pleasant’ experience on the move for
English players to Real Madrid.
Manchester
United fans can be forgiven if they sounded despair at this point of the
current summer transfer windows. With only one signing in the relatively
unknown Guillermo Varela from Penarol and numerous names linked, it seems to
many Manchester United fans, the club has problems securing their preferred
transfer target(s). Whether this is down to David Moyes factor it is still too
early to call. After all the transfer window is one of the most exciting part
of the game for clubs supporters throughout the world and fans have every right to feel despair (or excited).
