One
month since the transfer window opened, one signing. And two weeks before the
season kick off, and one more month before the transfer window shut. Number of
signing – one, who?
Guillermo
Varela from Penarol. Yes that is the one! Manchester United fans will probably
not see him in action as he is reportedly going out on loan to gain experience.
There has been strong links to Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, only for Thiago
to end up with former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
Elsewhere
official bids have been made for Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) and Leighton Baines
(Everton) – both rejected! The former had two bids rejected making David Moyes
and Manchester United to ponder whether a third bid are even necessary. A third
bid will break Manchester United own transfer record but is it really necessary
when the player himself is not all too keen. There is also a shade of Dimitar
Berbatov in the pursuit of Fabregas – the long drawn pursuit may not necessary
means Fabregas will settle well at Old Trafford. Even so, Cesc Fabregas
supposedly has ‘returned home’ and it is not like he openly declared his desire
to join Manchester United – merely joining if his club Barcelona does not want
him.
There
has been suggestion on the possible bid for Luca Modric of Real Madrid. Modric would seems
a more logical choice with the fact that he struggled to hold down a permanent
starting berth at Real Madrid, additionally he has premier league experience
and plays in the mould similar of the now retired Paul Scholes. However reports
also suggested that Real Madrid may not release Modric as he is seen as someone
who can help Gareth Bale settle to life at the Bernabeau. Modric is also
reportedly involves in a possible player swapping deal which will see him and
Gareth Bale changing clubs – with more cash heading towards the London club. To
become a babysitter or switching few levels down (from Real Madrid back to
Tottenham Hotspurs), it is still anyone guess at the moment.
As
for the likelihood of Gareth Bale and/ or Cristiano Ronaldo joining,
literally speaking, Manchester United fans may well put these thoughts on
the backburners. Neither links have any solid source to back a possible move to
Old Trafford. Gareth Bale for once has been very strongly link to Real Madrid lately
and fans who follow transfer news knew that Florentino Perez normally gets his
man (player) in this type of big money transfer. As for Cristiano Ronaldo, it
seems that he is in pole position. Sign a new contract with Real Madrid and get
his reportedly £20 million a year in wages. By not signing he runs down his
contract and will command a mega signing-on fees (aside from salary) from his
next employer.
It is still early in
this transfer window with endless possibility of transfer that will soon take place. The closer it is
to the close of the transfer window the more activities will take place. Let’s
just hope Manchester United incoming players will not be the case of –
desperate signing.
