Looks
like Wayne Rooney is staying – after the ‘show of love’ from supporters.
Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini look set to join David Moyes at
Manchester United. Samuel Eto’o has arrived at Stamford Bridge as a blues,
joining former teammate Willian. Arsene Wenger goes for another free signing in
Mathieu Flamini. Elseway, Real Madrid looks set to pull down the stage for
Gareth Bale.It
is good news – that a player of Wayne Rooney’s quality does not end up at
rivals’ team. Despite the U-turn there is still an air of uncertainty over
Rooney’s future. It is claimed that Rooney is still bitter over the
‘allegation’ by Sir Alex Ferguson that he (Rooney) requested a transfer at the
end of last season. It seems that there are still possibilities of Rooney
making a move away from Old Trafford the next transfer window or next season.
There is also a possibility of Rooney getting a contract talk if his (good) performance
continues – truth is everyone else did not performed as well against a
striker-less Chelsea, hence Rooney looks like the star performer that night.
Meanwhile
it is reported that both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini has their heart
set on leaving Goodison Park, much to the dismay of Roberto Martinez who
repeated ask for the transfer window to close once the season started – to
avoid disruptions to teams’ preparation. He does have a valid point but the commercialization
of the transfer windows (for television) makes it almost impossible for such
change. Manchester United looks set to increase their offer for the duo.
Fellaini seems logical acquisition but Baines’ transfer still leave some
United’s supporters scratching their heads, with the news that back up
leftback, Alexander Buttner may be leaving on loan.
Over
at Stamford Bridge Samuel Eto’o has reunite with Jose Mourinho and Willian,
taking a huge pay cut to join Chelsea. However with a one year deal could also
signal a short term signing for Mourinho to fill the lone striker role. While
almost certain to miss out on Wayne Rooney, Mourinho now has to taste his own
medicine with speculation of bids coming from Manchester United for David Luiz
and from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs – for Juan Matta. Luiz and Matta are
reportedly not in Mourinho’s plan but he is not willing to sell them to title
rivals – talk about a kid in the candy store who wanted to hold on to
everything in the trolley but was specifically told he can’t have all of them.
At
Arsenal Arsene Wenger’s signing of free agent – Mathieu Flamini seems like a
tactic to silence his critic, at least temporarily while Arsenal concentrate on
another ‘desperation signing’ period. Flamini was reportedly having been
training with Arsenal during the off season. Why wouldn’t Wenger sign him early
on in June since he is a free agent, instead of leaving until the last few days
of the transfer windows. All these points to a manager on the verge of desperation
– how Wenger wish that there are no such thing as transfer window now!
At
Real Madrid, there are plenty of rumours and speculations on why Gareth Bale
has not arrived. All the arrogance of Fiorentino Perez – of selling Bale’s Real
Madrid shirt and erecting a stage to welcome him seems to have backfire. The
deal according to many sources will still likely to go through, only maybe on
the deadline. It seems like Daniel Levy and Spurs have every intention to
punish Real Madrid for their arrogancy. With the World Cup qualifiers after this
weekend of league matches, Bale will arrive at Bernabeu in the condition Wayne
Rooney was before – short of match fitness. One can only recalled Luka Modric’s
situation last season with deadline signing. In the end, Modric endured a
nightmare first season at Real Madrid and most critics blamed in on the lack of
pre season preparation. Could Bale go through a similar situation?
