Another
draw and another 2 points dropped – and now Manchester United is 9 points off
Arsenal (a rather surprise league leader). In the end United was saved by a
dubious penalty through Danny Welbeck – and subsequently Wayne Rooney.Just
days after the convincing win over Bayer Leverkusen, David Moyes’ men are back
to their usual – inability to produce the winning form in the Premier League.
This was the game United is more than capable of winning – and winning late. In
the end it was not a bad performance but two points dropped now could come back
and hurt United later on. It was the same as the game against Cardiff City but
some could argue that this could be the point earned in a difficult away game
against a side hurt by their last mauling from United’s neighbor. True in many
sense but to be champion United needs to be clinical and produce those last
minutes winning goal.
This
is where December would be parmount for David Moyes in order not to get too
far behind the league leaders. At some points this month teams like Arsenal,
Chelsea and Manchester City will drop points (Liverpool had already started!!).
This is probably the time where Moyes will don his Everton’s days style –
defensive formation with lots of players behind the ball. But it may turn out
to be necessary in this decisive period, where United’s fans can expect many
1-0 or 2-1 scoreline. An important point to note is that Wayne Rooney is still
producing the type of football expected of him but every good run will come to
an end, let’s just hope when it ends the other United players can step in and
produce the necessary performance – as evident in Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
