This
is it for David Moyes’ team? How much does Manchester United wants that 4th
spot for Champions League football next season? After the euphoria of signing
Juan Mata (honestly he did not deliver the extra invigorating factor as Mesut
Ozil), the warm weather training in Dubai and so much talk about possible next
season signings, the final 12 games for this season will determined Moyes’ team
fate for next season.Of
course there is the Champions League – where stranger things can happen.
Liverpool’s win at Istanbul remained one of the sporting world most ‘strangest’
possibility, therefore a weaken and demoralized Manchester United post Alex
Ferguson remains that one team that can make this happen – winning the
Champions League.
But
it is the Premier League that represents most of what makes Manchester United
the global football powerhouse they are today and it is where they have to make
it happen. Finishing outside top four could have many unwanted impacts on the
post Alex Ferguson era.
David
Moyes has the unwanted attention of breaking the ‘unneccessary’ records after
taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson. Manchester United’s Premier League form has
been ‘hurting’ United supporters this season and it has to change – for the
supporters sake as well hopes of the 4th spot finishing. Against a
struggling team like Crystal Palace, Moyes must make his team play like
outgoing champion. A good run of form from now till end of the season will
provide the momentum for next season.
To
many, David Moyes inherited title winning squad – but one that needs major
overhauling. But it is also a quality squad where fighting for 4th
spot should not be the remaining priority. Instead Manchester United should
still be in the domestic cup games competitions as well as a fighting distance
of the Premier League title. It is a squad still worthy of being champion – be it
domestic cups competition. Therefore Moyes’ task is to ensure United play to
what is expected of them – regardless of who is in the squad. Every single
squad member must be utilize between now and end of the season. The episode of Wilfred
Zaha and Fabio da Silva as well as Anderson should not happen in the first
place – it shows weakness in Moyes handling of a title winning squad!
