We
Manchester United fans would welcome Cristiano Ronaldo(CR7) back, anytime!
What’s
not to like about him. Apart from Lionel Messi at the moment no one else came
close to Ronaldo’s performance. He has grown from a skinny, full-of-tricks, but
pacey teenager when he first arrived as a 19 years old from Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo has since developed into a complete forward, scoring goals (and wonder
goals) at ease. The big wage demand should not be a problem for Manchester
United as Ronaldo’s commercial strength alone is enough to compensate for the
high wages. He left Manchester United in 2008 having won all the titles in
England as well as highest individual accolades.
However
his trophy counts as well as individual accolades has not increased
dramatically during his years in Spain with Real Madrid (his wallet has!). A big
part of the reason – Lionel Messi, and his team, Barcelona. Real Madrid has
their ‘galacticos’, big names players too. But it is at the same era of which
Pep Guardiola and his Barcelona rules. Thus Cristiano Ronaldo has always seems
to come out second best, whether individually or with his team. And this
despite Ronaldo’s phenomenal scoring records. One would wonder if the arrival
of Neymar would help Ronaldo’s reputation as one of the best player in football
world. Help in the sense that if (a big if) Neymar do manage to settle in a
team containing the best player on the planet, playing in the same forward
position as that best player, and yet manage to outperform that best player
(Messi). This would probably leads to clash of egos between Messi and Neymar,
in turn would eventually make their performance suffer, with Cristiano Ronaldo
capitalizing on it. This is however quite unlikely as Barcelona is a well-run
club and the club’s hierarchy would put a stop to it (the clash of egos between
Messi and Neymar).
With
Ronaldo (and possibly his advisers), one would never know the exact outcome or
moves they are going to make next. For one moment Ronaldo admitted he misses
Manchester United and it’s the club closest to his heart, and returning will
always be a welcome option. The next moment he states that he is currently
happy in Spain, when just months ago he had claimed to be ‘sad’. It’s an open
secret that Ronaldo’s was not very popular within the Real Madrid’s dressing
room.
One
acceptable guess is that money will be the major determining factor for
Ronaldo’s next move (whether he is staying or leaving Real Madrid). Given the
available options, it’s rather a ‘no-brainer’ if Ronaldo decides to let his
contract run down and thus able to command huge signing on fees (for himself)
when he sign for the next time. Even if Ronaldo signs a new deal at Real
Madrid, he would still be able to command huge salary (minus the signing on
fees) should he choose to leave as his on-field and his commercial abilities
are enough reasons for big clubs to make a move for him.
If Cristiano Ronaldo is true to his word then fans would either see him
spending many years in Madrid (as claim by Fiorentino Perez), or Manchester
United as his next AND ONLY move. It is still early days in this transfer
window. Many things can still happen, so Manchester United fans are not giving
up, just yet!
