Following
Manchester United’s 4-1 win away at Swansea, David Moyes proves many points,
one of them is that he is the right man for Manchester United. It may be the
first league game for United, it maybe Swansea as opposition, or it maybe that
his handling of Wayne Rooney’s future, but the win is enough reason for Moyes
to say “eat this @#$”! to his doubters.
Following Manchester City’s 4-0 over Newcastle and Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Hull City, the three title contenders sit on top of the league with superior goal differences. To have a fairer assessment of Manchester United, City and Chelsea wins (without disrespecting) over their opponents, one need to analyze the type of matchup they each have. City and Chelsea are playing at home while United travels to Swansea. Of the three opponents (Swansea, Hull city and Newcastle), playing away at Swansea would represent the toughest matchup of the lot. Swansea under Michael Laudrup is a formidable opponent, their new signing Wilfred Bony is a quality player. Teams like them worked hard in the middle of the park, at set pieces. What let them down in the end is mentality. The two goals from Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck in less than five minutes were enough to shatter them. While many praise Wayne Rooney’s contribution the damage was already done – mentally. Rooney came on when the team is playing well and with a lot of confidence. Of course in terms of match fitness Rooney gains but in terms of sportsmanship/ loyalty he was the biggest loser for refusing to celebrate the goals. Hull City first game back in the Premier League is against a team assembles at the costs of hundreds of millions while Newcastle United has not really improved from last season’s near relegation battle. Both are notoriously slow starter, what more to say playing the first game away from home and against genuine title contenders.

Of
course it is early days – just first out of 38 games. This weekend’s matchup
between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford will be the one not to be
miss. It may well be City’s chance to break away slightly ahead if the results
at Old Trafford ended up in a draw. Fans can be assured that David Moyes would
be putting a lot of effort in this match. It is also a match significant to
United’s supporters – it is David Moyes first game in charge at Old Trafford
and what an opponent to have. Don’t miss this!
