A
rather interesting story surfaces – Manchester United has been negotiating all
along, despite the Fabregas bids and the Wayne Rooney saga – in the attempt to
bid for Cristiano Ronaldo – in a reported region of £80 million…
For
that amount of bid, it surely breaks Manchester United own transfer record. It
is also reported that Nike and General Motors will be the parties backing this
deal. Cristiano Ronaldo was sold for £80 million to Real Madrid back in 2008 in
a world record transferl. Five years on, if this story is to turn out true,
Manchester United fans would welcome back Ronaldo, a different Ronaldo.
When
Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United he had already collected winners
medals in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, World Club
Championship, as well as numerous individual accolades. He had since improved
his performance, especially in the goal scoring department. He is no longer the out and out winger with
crosses into the box but rather a winger who cuts in and grab goal scoring
opportunities. He also possesses one of the most amazing heading abilities to
go with his trademark freekicks. Off the field, Ronaldo’s status as a global
football star – in a Manchester United shirt will surely be a commercial
success.
If this deal does happen, credits will be
given to Manchester United’s hierarchy – from the Glaziers to the board, down
to the manager. It does make sense (with this tactic), with Real Madrid been
busy with Gareth Bale and the rest of the world reading on the Cesc Fabregas
bids as well as the long drawn Wayne Rooney saga, the negotiating team can
fully focus on putting together a package to entice Ronaldo back to Old Trafford
without the media breathing down their neck.
Let’s just wait and
see the development in the next few days – while keeping our fingers close!
